I just love sunrises, so when I saw the forecast for Jan. 1, 2021, called for partly cloudy skies I made plans to drive to Henderson Swamp between Baton Rouge and Lafayette, La., to capture the very first sunrise of the year. I wasn't disappointed! After creating some amazing predawn photos, I saw the sun starting to tip the horizon. It was a perfect ball of fire through the trees and the veil of clouds, creating an amazing golden glow — so I moved to these trees for another photo. That's one of the things that I enjoy about sunrises: The light and colors change by the minute, offering different looks. And when you add the beauty of a cypress swamp, the combination is unbeatable! It was such a wonderful way to begin the new year!
