I was driving back from a hike in Conaree National Park when I passed the old Wateree Country Store, which was first opened in 1856. I love these old reminders of days gone by, and this store is really perfect. The old signs, peeling paint and rusted tin tells so much about the story of the building. Wateree is a remote little village in the South Carolina Lowcountry, and it's not hard to understand the importance of the store to the community in the days before big-box stores pushed out small businesses.
